Respect Diversity Symbol Exhibit scheduled at Omniplex
Kirkpatrick Science and Air Space Museum at Omniplex has scheduled
the Respect Diversity Symbol Exhibit for June 25 throughAugust
2, 2002. The exhibit features hundreds of collaborative works
of art, poetry, and photography by students of all ages. Young
people throughout Oklahoma are celebrating diversity in creative
ways, as they explore issues of cultural diversity, civil rights,
and global peace through the arts.
The Diversity Message Mural, a 50 foot silk-screened banner, will
be displayed as a hands-on feature of the exhibit. Visitors will
have an opportunity to write messages of peace and understanding
on the mural. The Diversity Message Mural will be presented to
Governor Keating and, in the fall, will be displayed in the State
Capitol. President Bush received a similar mural, with messages
from his own state.
The June 28th Opening, 6:00 pm 8:30 pm, will include a program,
beginning at 6:30 pm, in the Eleanor Maurer Theatre, featuring
songs specially created for this event, and sung by composers
Monty Harper and Jason Young. Among the children performing will
be students from Westminster School and Edmonds Just Off Broadway.
Hors doeuvres and desserts from popular restaurants will be
served.
The Respect Diversity Symbol Exhibit is a model initiative. It
will be a reminder that each of us has a responsibility to make
this a more tolerant world by respecting each individual, said
Governor Keating. Thousands of students, teachers, and citizens
who visit the Respect Diversity Symbol Exhibit at Omniplex will
be inspired to embrace diversity through the arts.
