Songwriting With Monty Harper

Assemblies and Workshops for PK-5th

Why Songwriting?

When students write songs, they...

  • Re-enforce every PASS skill listed under language arts and under music.

  • Express themselves creatively in a positive way.

  • Practice working together toward a common goal.

  • Participate in an experience that will long be remembered.

  • Organize, internalize, and communicate information.

  • Use both sides of their brains.

  • Feel good about themselves.

  • Sing their hearts out.

  • Wear big wide grins on their faces.

Put Your Students’ Songs to Use

Students will get much more out of the writing experience if they know their song is valued by others. Here are some “real world” objectives you might set for your workshop...

  • Use students’ songs in a public performance.

  • Use students’ songs during your morning opener.

  • Use students’ songs to help teach concepts to other students.

  • Use students’ songs to raise awareness for a cause.

  • Make and sell recordings of students’ songs as a fundraiser.
