I often visit Nancy Simpson's classroom at Skyline Elementary here in Stillwater to get feedback from her students. After a May 2003 visit Mrs. Simpson presented me with a clever little book she had made using the classroom computer. I've done my best to reproduce it here in "webpage" format. Thank you, Nancy, and kids!!! Enjoy! - Monty

How does Monty Harper write such good songs? He does lots of research, he writes and rewrites, then he comes to have an author's chair with real kids! |
Monty sings to and for the kids. He watches for their reactions as he sings. He wants to know the parts they like, when they are puzzled, and even if they are lost. |
When Monty sings, he really sings. He works hard to sing well and to help the kids want to listen. |
It's really fun when Monty comes for just our class because we can sit up close and really watch his hands as he plays the guitar. |
Today Monty sang several songs about dinosaurs. We liked the A to Z dinosaur song and the Great Green Bibliovore. |
After he finishes singing a song, Monty says, "I'm ready for questions and comments." We have lots of comments - mostly good ones. |
You can tell we like Monty's songs because everyone is watching and listening. |
This is Monty's daughter Evalyn Rose Harper. She is two. I wonder if she is writing a song like her daddy? |
Thank you Monty for sharing your songs with us. We are happy to hear you sing and glad you want us to help you write more good songs. |
