A. At the top of the songbook page is a section listing all of Monty's recordings. Clicking a title will take you to a list of songs available on that recording.
Below the list of recordings is a section with many of Monty's songs (including some that aren't on any recording) listed alphabetically by title. We've tried to include every song that has been recorded or regularly performed in Monty's concerts.
Each song title is followed by a short description. If you click on the title, you will arrive at the page for that song. The song lyrics are displayed on the left, and on the right is information about the song; why it was written, what recording it's on, etc.
A. If you know the title of the song you want, the quickest way to find it song is to browse the alphabetical listing. Just go back to the songbook and scroll down until you see the song title, then click on it.
If you don't know the title, you can use your browser's find function, under the Edit menu, to search for a related word. For instance, if you know there was a girl in it with a really long name, search for "name" or "girl." Or, just scroll through the list and read all the descriptions.
Although many of the songs Monty performs are listed in the songbook, it's possible the song you're looking for hasn't been added yet. If you think that might be the case, you can write to Monty and ask.
A. No. Eventually we hope to have them all posted. As of August 2006, some songs from The Great Green Squishy Mean Concert CD and songs from Paws Claws Scales & Tales have not been added. However, lyrics and chords for these songs are available on the actual CDs. (To access them, put the CD into a personal computer.)
A. This website uses frames, so for most readers, when you click on a song title, the lyrics will show up in a frame, with the menu to the left and Monty's name in big colorful letters at the top. You can open just the lyrics in a new window by using your browser's pop-up menu (click in the lyrics frame and hold for a Mac, right-click or something or other for Windows) to select "Open this frame in a new window." Then click your browser's print button.
If the above was no help to you, then try this: select the lyrics, copy them, and paste them into a text file or other word processing program. Then print them. But if you do this, PLEASE INCLUDE THE COPYRIGHT INFORMATION AT THE BOTTOM!
If you are having trouble fitting the lyrics on one page, try changing the size of the text with your browser's preferences.
A. It sort of depends on what you want to use it for. You may certainly print lyrics for personal enjoyment or educational use. If you want to perform the song in front of people for fun, that's great - please tell them the song was written by Monty Harper. If you want to use the song for a commercial purpose, such as recording it on your album or singing it in a program you are paid to do, or putting it in a movie, please contact Monty for permission.
A. Many of the songs in the songbook are available on CD and/or in digital format (Try iTunes or CDBaby.com to hear samples). Many of the song pages include information on where to get a recording - although much of this information needs updating.
If the song is not commercially available, Monty can supply you with a demo recording. You will just have to ask.
A. No. Someday we hope they will be, but they are not yet. The best we can do is point you to the lyrics pages (see above) which you are welcome to print for personal use. Monty can also email you the guitar chords to certian songs if you request it, but please don't count on an immediate response. Guitar chords are included in the CD extras for all the songs on Take Me to Your Library, The Great Green Squishy Mean Concert CD, and Paws Claws Scales & Tales.
